Why this work is both professional and personal.
Zohair Zakavi came to this work after decades of hands-on problem-solving. He has owned and run several small businesses — sign repair, handyman work, and computer and IT repair — managed a hotel, and worked in transportation, including autonomous trucking. Across all of it, the same habit carried through: notice what is unsafe, measure it carefully, and put it right.
The work became personal when he cared for his own aging parents, including his mother, who lived with dementia. He saw how much a safer home protects independence and dignity, and earned the Certified Senior Home Safety Specialist (SHSS) credential through Age Safe America to do this properly. He is not a medical provider — his focus is the home itself: the hazards, the measurements, and the practical changes that help an older adult stay safer where they live.
